FAQs

A wordlist is the list of words sent home (by the school) for spelling and reading homework.

The reading specialist will break each word up into its CORRECT sound parts.

There will be holiday ‘work’. It will be short and sweet but it will allow the child to continue practicing all that has been taught in the term.

The reading specialist will work with grade R (if there is homework for this grade), grade 1, 2 and 3 kids.

A parent can access these wordlists on the WORDLIST WHIZZ APP. The parent has the option to print the list out so that it is in front of the child or it is there on the screen for the child.

A reading specialist will coach the child through the wordlist. She will incorporate all the reading skills needed for that child. She will multitask and there will be a lot of repetition. The young children need this repetition!

The voicenotes will be short and sweet! No more than 5 minutes!

It is recommended that the child should listen to the voicenote on a daily basis (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday).

Many mums have said the best way to listen to the voicenote is to use HEADPHONES. This helps with both comprehension and concentration.

It is encouraged that your child write while listening. They should have full control of the note. If they need to pause or rewind (not fast forward!) they must be able to.

The school option is when every child within a school has access to the app. The parents, teachers and head of the school are all on board!

No! Every school has a different method and way of teaching. The wordlists sent home for homework will vary depending on the school. The reading specialist will customise them according to the school.

The reading specialist will do a voicenote that suits every child in that grade. It will not have a ‘personal’ aspect to it.

Parents have said that the Wordlist Whizz has made homework time A LOT easier. They can get on with cooking while their child listens to the voicenotes and writes the words down.

Reading is in fact really difficult to teach. If a child is taught the foundations incorrectly by the time he gets to grade 3, he will start shutting down. He will be overwhelmed by the text. It is ESSENTIAL that the FOUNDATIONS are taught correctly.

The private option is for those parents who feel their child will benefit from a more personal touch. The reading specialist will address the child personally. She will also get in touch with the child’s teacher and keep her posted on progress.

There will be continued voicenotes and wordlists sent in the holidays. The reading specialist will continue to coach the child in the holidays and personally keep in touch with the child’s parent.

Yes a parent can stop using the app anytime.

Yes! It is encouraged that child form a relationship with the reading specialist. They are more than welcome to send feedback and voicenotes back!

Children love hearing their names:) This personal touch is great especially for those kids who are negative towards reading and homework. They are encouraged and coached very personally. This helps immensely with their confidence.
